At Bathroom Planet of Chicago, we’re dedicated to pleasing our customers with a wide variety of incredible designs, including the most modern and popular ones of the year. As we approach the halfway point of 2019, here are the most impactful design trends we’ve noticed so far in the world of bathroom remodeling to inspire you with your next bathroom redesign project this year.
Floating Vanities
An important and dramatic feature that can define your entire bathroom’s layout is the sink and mirror area. Unless you have built in cabinets below the vanity, upgrading this area with a floating vanity is a fast and simple way to get your bathroom looking up-to-date with a sophisticated look.
Often times, floating vanities are used in 5-star, luxury hotels and modern buildings, but are also finding their ways into homes—especially those decorated in modern or minimalist styles. Floating vanities are wall-mounted and do not touch the floor, which adds an upscale and more modern look to the entire space.
Wall-Mounted Toilets
One of the most common bathroom items that often gets overlooked or replaced with a standard replacement is the toilet. Although the toilet is a fixture that we use every day, and everyone has at least one in their homes, the toilet hasn’t changed much over the years when compared to other fixtures like the sink or the shower.
A good reason for this is that toilets aren’t usually in need of replacement and can last a very long time—sometimes even a lifetime with the proper maintenance. This year, however, toilets are becoming more of a focus in bathroom redesign, with floating toilets emerging as a popular upgrade. A floating toilet, much like a floating vanity, is affixed to the wall for a more sleek appearance. This both saves space in your bathroom and hides all of the unsightly components of a standard toilet.
Open Showers
Showers are often one of the most important parts of a remodel as they take up most of the space. During a remodel, many opt to replace bathtubs with stand up showers and renovate stand-up showers to more attractive tile enclosures. One of the biggest trends in 2019 is an open shower design. An open shower usually eliminates the need for unsightly shower curtains and loud glass shower doors, and are a classy, elegant touch that instantly modernizes the entire bathroom space.
Floor-to-Ceiling Glass Shower Enclosures
Standard glass shower enclosures are usually only about 6-7 feet tall. With a floor-to-ceiling enclosure, however, you get the beauty of a fully enclosed shower that blends beautifully with the rest of your bathroom décor and style. As a bonus feature, a floor-to-ceiling enclosure can help to keep more steam and heat in your shower as well. These are usually available with or without a door to allow for the use of an open shower as an integral part of the design concept.
Skinny, Long Tiles
Last but not least on our list of 2019 bathroom design trends is a look that many were not expecting: long skinny tiles. Over the past decade, large, 12x12 tiles and subway tiles have ruled the shower design world for new build standards and renovations. Going into 2019, you can expect more people to install skinny long tiles to add more texture and custom looks to their shower space. This design can carry over to backsplashes and other tile-covered areas.
